Design and Build: Premium Feel with a Few Quirks
The Agni 4 screams refinement. It features an aluminum alloy frame sandwiched between Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and anti-glare (AG) glass on the back. At 208g and 8.6mm thick, it's hefty but well-balanced. The pill-shaped horizontal camera island gives it a modern, Pixel-like vibe, available in Phantom Black or Lunar Mist (the latter hides fingerprints better).
A standout feature is the customizable Action Key on the right edge – think iPhone's Action Button. Double-press for flashlight, long-press for camera, or map it to over 100 actions. It's handy, though its low placement takes getting used to.
IP64 dust and splash resistance is decent, but rivals like Motorola's Edge series offer IP68. Overall, reviewers call it "premium and solid," feeling like a phone from a higher price bracket.
Display: Bright, Smooth, and Immersive
The 6.67-inch 1.5K (1220 x 2712) AMOLED panel is a joy. With a 120Hz refresh rate, 2400 nits peak brightness, HDR10+ support, and slim uniform bezels, it's excellent for streaming, gaming, and outdoor use. Colors pop in vivid mode, while natural mode keeps things accurate. High PWM dimming (1920Hz) reduces eye strain.
Stereo speakers are loud, though they can distort at max volume. It's on par with the best in this segment – sharp, vibrant, and sunlight-readable.
Performance: Blazing Fast, No Compromises
This is where the Agni 4 shines. The Dimensity 8350 (4nm) with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage delivers flagship-level speed. AnTuTu scores around 1.3-1.4 million, Geekbench multi-core over 4,500. Multitasking is buttery, app launches instantaneous.
Gaming? BGMI at 60fps smooth, COD Mobile at 90fps, even Genshin Impact on medium without major throttling – thanks to a large vapor chamber. It stays cool during extended sessions.
Software is near-stock Android 15: clean, no bloatware or ads, with 3 OS upgrades and 4 years of security patches promised. Animations could be smoother, but it's refreshing in a sea of bloated UIs.
Vayu AI: Innovative but Gimmicky?
Lava's big push is Vayu AI – an on-device assistant with "emotional awareness," specialized agents (math tutor, English coach, horoscope), call transcription, AI photo editing, and more. It's fun and productive for basic tasks, but voice recognition struggles with accents, and complex queries fall flat. A unique touch for Indian users, though not a deal-breaker.
Cameras: The Achilles' Heel
Hardware is promising: 50MP main (OIS, f/1.9) + 8MP ultrawide, plus 50MP selfie cam. All support 4K@60fps video – rare at this price.
Daylight shots from the main sensor are detailed with good dynamic range and natural bokeh. Portraits have accurate edge detection. However, over-sharpening, blown highlights, and inconsistent skin tones (often reddish) plague results. Ultrawide lacks detail, low-light is noisy, and night mode helps but doesn't excel.
Selfies are sharp in good light but wash out indoors. Compared to OnePlus Nord CE 5 or Poco X7 Pro, it lags in consistency. Recent updates have improved HDR and sharpening, but cameras remain average.
Battery and Charging: Reliable but Not Class-Leading
The 5,000mAh cell lasts a full day (5-7 hours SOT moderate use), but heavy gaming or 5G drains it faster. Rivals pack 6,000mAh+ for longer endurance.
The saving grace? Blazing 66W charging – 50% in 19 minutes, full in ~50. Charger included in the box!
Verdict: 8/10 – Great for Performance Lovers
Pros:
- Top-tier performance and thermals
- Premium build and stunning display
- Clean software with long updates
- Fast charging and unique AI features
- Made in India pride
Cons:
- Inconsistent cameras
- Average battery life
- Minor UI polish needed
- IP64 instead of higher rating
At ₹24,999 (often discounted), the Lava Agni 4 is a performance powerhouse and a strong "Buy Indian" option. If gaming, speed, and clean software matter most, go for it. For better cameras or battery, look at OnePlus Nord CE 5 or Motorola Edge 60 series.
Lava is pushing boundaries – with software updates, this could be even better. Proud to see an Indian brand competing this fiercely!
